Austin does an amazing job of giving support to its homegrown products and people. From the burgers and tacos at P. Terry’s and Torchy’s to the jewels of Kendra Scott and the tunes of Bob Schneider, we endorse things that start here. It’s great when I, along with other Austinites, can find that upstart product, project or voice that will soon be the talk of the town, then becoming the talk of Texas and – soon enough – the talk of the nation. It’s thrilling to watch these trends grow, and it makes me incredibly proud to be an early adopter and encourage people from this great city.more
Good morning! There is nothing better than waking up on Friday and realizing that the day is ours to play as we choose. As we embark on this holiday weekend, I would like to start by thanking the brave men and women that have served our country to allow us the freedom and protection that we are so very blessed to know. There is no greater sacrifice than to commit one’s life to the protection of others, and for that we are eternally grateful.more
As I was reading last night I ran across an article in the Austin Business Journal that reminded me of one of the myriad reasons that we truly and unconditionally love our great city SO much! This inspired me to start a series here sharing with you snippets over time of the things that we believe make Austin the “bee’s knees”. Please note, these will be in no particular order at all. This is a series about Austin so we cannot be too stuffy or structured y’all. So here we begin counting the ways we love Austin…more
Being a lover of rain, I was elated as I viewed the forecast a couple of weeks ago. The deluge of rain came as predicted, and I found myself with this sense of joy as our yard seemed greener and livelier than I remembered it being in years. As I would drive home and peer over at my favorite view of Lake Travis, my heart would swell with happiness to see those islands slowly disappearing. It seemed Mother Nature was smiling down on us and finally bringing an end to the years of drought we had been facing. But just as quickly as those feelings of excitement came, feelings of fear rolled in right behind them over Memorial Day weekend.more
We are so excited to have an extra day for fun this weekend that we can hardly help ourselves as we shuffle through list after list of happenings in and around Austin to decide just what to do! If you find yourself local for the holiday weekend, here are a few of our top picks for you to peruse:
(1) Any list of Memorial Day weekend events should undeniably start with something unmistakably All-American, and we feel that the Round Rock Express eight game homestand that kicks off Thursday night fits the bill for sure! If your Memorial Day holiday is not complete without a full-fledged fireworks display, head on over to Dell Diamond on Friday night for the one surefire way to meet that requirement. Throw in a hotdog for dinner while watching the game and you have all the makings a mighty fine way to kick off this weekend. But, back to the fireworks shall we? There will be a spectacular...more
Yes, we bought a moving company! Odd right? As we worked on this venture over the past couple of months, Anthony commented one night, “we bought a zoo!” He was referencing the 2011 Cameron Crowe movie of course, not the fact that the business we bought was a zoo. That comment stuck with me, so we cued up the movie recently on family movie night and low and behold there were definitely some things there that I found ironically relevant. See, when you sum it up, WE BOUGHT A ZOO is a hopeful message about taking chances, finding 20 seconds of insane courage, loving people, and adventurous, unadulterated joy. All elements of the exciting new adventure our family has just embarked on.more
